The BAP and THE MAN...How to handle the Job.

Well, a true BAP works. Even if the bank account says BAP need not work BAP is the head of some charity and plans fabulous events which benefit those that need assistance. The working BAP may be a Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer, Teacher, Account etc... She is at least college educated and tends to have more than the basic degree. This is because the BAP must have more than to be considered equal to in the job market when dealing with THE MAN. All BAPs have to deal with THE MAN.

THE MAN is the boss man, the money man, the promotions man, increasingly, THE MAN may also be the BAP's peer. This bothers THE MAN because THE MAN does not think he is equal to a BAP. THE MAN may try and push upon BAP tasks outside of her job requirements and indeed may impact the BAP's ability to function in a position she was overqualified to accept. A key phrase to a BAP's survival with THE MAN is " Would you like me to call the secretary for that...?" Translated, 'lookee here, the only other people taking notes in this meeting are the secretaries and interns. If you want notes I suggest you hire one, the other, or take your own notes.'

The BAP must be careful when dealing with THE MAN in the work environ. Historical stereotyping has lead the man to believe BAP is an Angry Black Women ("ABW"). This is not the case. But, with the likes of reality TV personas edited just so, and many movie and television roles written to highlight the eye rolling, neck snaking, teeth sucking African American Woman the BAP must be extra polite in the dealing with THE MAN. This is not hard as a true BAP is not only smart and skilled but gracious as well.
